2010 Olympic Travel to Seattle

Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau

What a difference a stadium makes! Since the grand unveiling of Safeco Field in 1999, Seattle has transformed into a baseball town. Of course, the game's sole single-name superstar — Ichiro — has had a major-league impact. Hosting the 2001 All-Star Game didn't hurt either. But baseball is by no means the only game in town. Qwest Field, just north of Safeco — with the same great skyline and water views — hosted its inaugural game in August 2002 and is already established as a prime venue with state-of-the-art facilities for both football and soccer. KeyArena is sports central at Seattle Center - home to 2004's WNBA Champions, the Seattle Storm, and the Rat City Roller Girls Roller Derby team. Keep an eye on the University of Washington Huskies (Rose Bowl and women's crew winners in 2001), horse racing at Emerald Downs, minor league baseball with the Everett Aquasox and Tacoma Rainiers, PRCA Rodeo, and a host of other spectator and participatory sports that find the Seattle environment irresistible.

Mariners baseball means good weather and great fun. Don’t forget your glove if you are traveling between March and September. Home to one of baseball’s all-time best hitters, Ichiro, (voted 2nd best in the league in 2005 with a .303 average, 206 hits and 111 runs) Safeco field is a must-see destination while visiting Seattle. This unique structure features a retractable roof and pedestrian concourse that surrounds the field and allows spectators to watch the game from any angle.
