Seattle & The Great Outdoors
Marine Sports
If it is the water you love, then look no further. To the west we have Elliott Bay and Puget Sound, to the north there is Lake Union, and to the east, Lake Washington. If anything, you’ll be overwhelmed with the options available to you.
Kayaking/Canoeing
What more do you need than a kayak, a picnic lunch, a guide, and a pod of orca whales? Many companies in the beautiful San Juan Islands offer half-day to seven-day kayak trips with phenomenal whale and wildlife watching excursions. However, if you’d rather just have a paddle, kick around Lake Union for the afternoon. Visit these featured kayaking and canoeing tour and rental companies:

Swimming
A number of nearby beaches are great spots to practice that crawl stroke. Indoor lap pools are also plentiful, and certainly a better choice in the winter! Greenlake, Golden Gardens and Alki Beach are popular swimming spots and are located in wonderful areas in which to spend an entire day.
Parks & Recreation
This is your best resource to find an outdoor spot for whatever activity you have planned. Organize your own soccer game on a Sunday afternoon, find the nearest running trail or rent a boat on one of the lakes.
Winter Sports
Those mountains all around Seattle aren’t just for show. During the winter months, the registered ski locations around the Northwest are booming with every winter activity one can think of. The closest mountain (about a 60 minute drive) is the Summit at Snoqualmie, featuring four peaks, and a Nordic center for tubing and snowshoeing.
Outdoor Adventure
Venture out on your own or go with a guide to explore Western Washington from coastline to mountain top. This stunning landscape lends itself well to any type of outdoor activity, from hiking to biking to mountain climbing.
